In an airport, the ballet of movements around the planes, the excitement and the hurrying by of the travellers, all come together to whet my visual curiosity, as much as the places the travellers will be flying to. My principal motivation as a photographer is not to visit new lands, or to conquer virgin territory, but to help present the world that surrounds us, and that we believe we know, from a new angle, one that shows a hitherto unsuspected depth.
These last few years, I have spent plenty of time with scientists. Their curiosity, the imagination that they bring to bear on their theories, and the moral and intellectual rigour that drives them, all this shows them up as marvellous explorers of the real world. I have followed them as they passionately study the behaviour of sand, turbulence in the air, or how flies see the world…
For me, there is little doubt that I feel a special sort of freedom in my work with scientists as their way of looking at the world corresponds to my own vision: to deal with subjects not for any spectacular aspects, but because they open new dimensions in our discovery of the world around us. Today, I try to apply this same process to themes that are even closer to home.
The photo features here on my site are only a selection of the images that I have available for publication. If you want want to see more, or a more complete version of any feature, please don’t hesitate to contact me.
